Skyrim, despite being a great success, did not perform well on the consoles. Multiple sloppy framerate issues were reported on the PS3, and the situation would worsen as players progressed through the story and the save file size largened. Bethesda did issue some patches at the time which alleviated some of it, but reports of these issues still persist to this day. The massive scale of the game did mean a lot of bugs and bugs there were, both funny and game-breaking.

Bethesda had plans for releasing an updated version of the game for the PS4 and Xbox One, which they did with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. Most of the above-mentioned issues were ironed out, resulting in a more cohesive experience. Nintendo Switch also received the port as a launch title, showcasing the potential power of the console.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
